Wisdom Teeth Problems

Some wisdom teeth erupt (come through the gum) without any problems, but others come through at an angle and push into the gum or the tooth next to them. This is known as impaction.

Wisdom tooth impaction can be painful and can lead to infection. Brushing these teeth can be challenging. Food and bacteria can become trapped between the wisdom tooth and the tooth  next to it, causing tooth decay and gum infections known as pericoronitis

Wisdom teeth that are crowded frequently lean sideways and rub against the cheek. This can

result in cheek ulcers and chewy difficulties

If there is not enough room in your mouth for your wisdom teeth to come through properly – removing a tooth early may help prevent a future problem you are experiencing: If you experience pain, infection, or damage to other teeth, your oral health professional may recommend that your wisdom teeth be removed.

They may also advise keeping an eye on the tooth in case it appears to be causing problems later on.
